How to go Dham Dam

Dham Dam has recently become popular for national and international tourists living around Kathmandu, Nepal. It has become a popular destination for hiking, nature walks, and sightseeing due to its scenic beauty and relatively easy accessibility from Kathmandu.

Location: It’s situated in the north-east part of the Kathmandu district, bordering the Sindhupalchowk and Nuwakot districts. Administratively, it lies in Ward No. 1 of Gokarneshwor Municipality of Kathmandu district.
Proximity to Kathmandu: It’s approximately 26 kilometers from Kathmandu city.
Accessibility: The dam site can be accessed through two main routes from the Kathmandu Valley:
From Sundarijal (about 21 km away).
From Sankhu (about 15 km away).

The roads are semi-graveled earthen roads and are generally accessible year-round.
Within Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park: The area falls within the conservation zone of the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park.

How to go to Dhap Dam
(By Hike)
1. Sundarijal to Mulkharka Village
Begin your hike from Sundarijal Buspark, entering the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park. The trail leads you through dense forests and streams, reaching Mulkharka Village in approximately 1.5 hours.
2. Mulkharka to Hile Bhanjyang
 from Mulkharka, continue your trek towards Hile Bhanjyang, a journey that takes about 2 hours.
3. Hile Bhanjyang to Dhap Dam
The final stretch from Hile Bhanjyang to Dhap Dam is a 20–30 minute walk. The serene beauty of the dam upon arrival makes the effort worthwhile. The dam area is tranquil, offering a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the surroundings.
4. Dhap Dam to chisapani
The distance between Dhap Dam to chisapani is only 3 km where you can get food and lodging, and the breathtaking panoramic mountain view as well as sunrise and sunset view . Chisapani is also a border point of three districts: Nuwakot, Sindhupalchowk & Kathmandu. You can stay overnight here in Chisapani and enjoy the night with bbq, campfire & drinks.

Before Sundarijal bus park (500 meters), you’ll encounter a gate on your right-hand side called Melamchi Gate. After entering that gate and in around 800 meters you will see the national park entry checkpoint to Dhap Dam or Chisapani via Mulkharka and Manichud. The road is a semi-graveled, off-road path suitable for high-clearance vehicles. It’s advisable to use a four-wheel-drive vehicle due to the road’s conditions. The distance from Sundarijal to Dhap Dam via this route is about 20 kilometers, and the journey typically takes around 2 hours, depending on road and weather conditions.
